**About the Kyoto Ippitsu Ryu artist, Keisuke Teshima:**Inspired by dragons from childhood, he has continued to draw dragon images. Influenced by 14 years of karate from age 6, where he learned the spirit of Japanese martial arts, he encountered the traditional 'Ippitsu Ryu' and was deeply impressed by its technique, history, and significance, feeling it was his destiny. He learned the technique through self-study. While preserving the tradition passed down since the Edo period, he pursues dragons with the spirit of 'Shuhari' (learning, detachment, mastery). He is considered one of only three Ippitsu Ryu artists in Japan. Originally from Fukuoka Prefecture, through various fortunate and inevitable encounters, he now has an atelier in Higashiyama, Kyoto—an ancient city with a 1,000-year history where dragons are believed to dwell.
**Kyoto, the city where dragons dwell:**Kyoto has been regarded for over a thousand years as a place imbued with the power of dragon veins and dragon holes. Many shrines and temples associated with dragons exist, and pilgrimages to worship the dragon deities have been actively carried out since ancient times.
**Dragon (Ryujin) belief in Japan:**Japan has long been considered a mysterious land where dragons reside, regarded as divine messengers or even as deities themselves. Many shrines, temples, myths, and legends worship the dragon gods, symbolizing prosperity and protection.
