■Product Name: TCB jeans S40's Jacket■Material: 100% Cotton■Country of Origin: Japan
This is the TCB jeans S40's Jacket. It is based on a denim jacket produced as a wartime model during the 1940s, in the period of World War II.During that time in America, resource control was implemented, and various items were simplified as mandatory. The "S" in S40's Jacket stands for "Simplified."
In 2012, when we produced 50's Jeans, I wondered who would buy jeans made by the unknown TCB, but I am grateful that TCB has received such requests. At that time, I felt a strong attraction to vintage models like the 506XX and 507XX, which are highly finished. However, as we reproduced various models including those from L Company, I became more strongly attracted to the charm and historical background inherent in the incomplete aspects of the Simplified models than I was back then.Due to this change in perspective, we are finally releasing this model with full confidence. The fabric is a 14 oz. new production fabric made specifically for the S40's, under the TCB WW2 designation.
**Excerpt from TCB jeans catalog**
The fabric used for the wartime model is a 14 oz. fabric that has been unraveled from vintage garments and analyzed at the fiber level. It is a naturally uneven fabric created with a blend of three types of American cotton: Eastern Memphis, New Orleans, and Texas, set on a machine to produce a subtle variation in texture. To reproduce the firmness of the fabric felt by Inoue when he handled the wartime model, it is spun with high-twist nepp yarns and cotton leaf debris.Unlike modern cotton, which has been bred for higher whiteness and is often considered better, the cotton blend used here reproduces the creamy, muted tones of the original. It is an original TCB fabric in deep indigo with pink selvage, free of sulfurization or other additives.
The vintage items owned by TCB feature rare prong height misalignments. From a production perspective, markings were made where the pleats should be sewn, and it appears that the person sewing on the left side sewed upward from the mark, while the right side sewed downward.Whether true or not, this indicates that the items passed inspection without being rejected. The background of these details reflects the wartime context, such as new standards from the Resource Control Bureau and Price Control Bureau, and changes in personnel during the war.*Excerpt from TCB jeans website*
Sizes 40 and above feature a T-back design. In vintage, this design appears from around sizes 44 and 46.It is a design intended for individuals with a larger physique.Every detail has been carefully reproduced.
At TCB, we value each vintage piece we encounter and reproduce accordingly. The stitch misalignment on the selvage is true to vintage standards.
The jacket's label is positioned about halfway higher than usual compared to standard pines. This is not because of the presence or absence of a flap, but because the actual position is higher.
Typically, the stitching at the junction where the sleeve fabric meets the armhole would be aligned exactly at that seam, but here it is approximately 3 cm away in a rough manner.
Since Japanese manufacturers generally do not produce pre-made rusted products, the buttons are custom-made iron raw finish (no coating). They will rust naturally over time, just like vintage items, as the jeans age and fade.During the wartime, due to resource restrictions, materials like copper and nickel could not be used for buttons and rivets, leading to this design.*Excerpt from TCB jeans website*
The jacket is constructed with extensive use of chain stitching. The armholes are sewn with chain stitches, which are considered a challenging part of the manufacturing process. The neatness on the reverse side is characteristic of chain stitching, faithfully reproducing vintage craftsmanship.
The front placket's back uses selvage fabric. This also follows vintage construction methods.
The leather patch is made of deer leather. It features a "Country CAT" label. It has a good vintage feel.
Compared to the traditional 50's Jacket, the armholes are slightly more relaxed, and the overall length is somewhat shorter. It offers a slightly vintage-like fit compared to previous TCB models.*Excerpt from TCB jeans website*
