This high-quality canvas is then hand-dyed individually by artisans at a dyeing factory in Kyoto. The deep colors and unique textures achieved through traditional techniques are its main appeal.
Looking closely at the pattern, you can feel the delicate layering of colors unique to hand-dyeing. Subtle gradations and bleeds enhance the texture that only manual work can provide, creating a one-of-the-kind beauty.

Because it bears many glossy red berries from late autumn to early winter, and because its name "Nanten" sounds like "Nan-ten" (turning hardship into good fortune), it is cherished as an auspicious tree.
Additionally, placing it at an entrance is believed to ward off evil by keeping bad energy away. An encyclopedia from the Edo period states that "planting Nanten prevents fires," and it has been planted in many private homes in "unlucky" directions as a "fire protection" to safeguard the safety of the house.
