Design: Yumi Ishikita / Dyeing: Hamamatsu Chusen Workshop
This hand-dyed tenugui features a motif inspired by a horse's eye, evoking a gentle and somewhat nostalgic landscape.
Based on a design by dyer Yumi Ishikita, the Hamamatsu Chusen Workshop carefully dyed each piece by hand.
The beautiful bleeding effect unique to chusen dyeing and the dyeing without any reverse side provide a gentle touch of color to your daily life.
It is recommended as an interior accent or as a gift.
- The beautiful, reversible dyeing characteristic of chusen.- Features the logo of dyer Yumi Ishikita.
Since all chusen dyeing is done manually, there are individual differences in the degree of dye bleed and color saturation.
Some pieces may have uneven color or areas that are not fully dyed, but we hope you will appreciate these as the charm of hand-dyeing.
【Resist Application】
Using a stencil, resist paste (bousei nori) is carefully applied to the parts where you want to retain the pattern.
This paste prevents the dye from penetrating the fabric, resulting in clear pattern outlines.
【Dyeing (Chusen)】
Using a tool called "yakan," dye is poured from above to dye the fabric.
The poured dye thoroughly penetrates to the underside of the fabric, creating a beautiful, reversible finish.
The characteristic bleeding and slight irregularities of handwork are part of the charm of chusen dyeing.
【Washing】
After dyeing, the fabric is carefully washed in water to remove residual dyes and pastes that are easy to wash out.
This process stabilizes the colors and creates a soft texture.
【Drying】
The washed fabric is hung high to dry naturally with the wind and sunlight.
The gentle sway in the breeze is one of the beautiful scenes unique to chusen dyeing.
