Design: Yumi Ishikita / Dyeing: Chusen Studio in HamamatsuA dyed tenugui towel featuring a horse's eye motif, evoking a calm and nostalgic landscape.
Based on a design by dyer Yumi Ishikita, this tenugui is carefully dyed one by one by a chusen studio in Hamamatsu.
The beautiful bleeding and the reversible dyeing, unique to the chusen technique, will add gentle color to your daily life.Recommended as an accent for interior decor or as a gift. The unique texture of chusen dyeing, beautifully colored on both sides.Includes the logo of dyer Yumi Ishikita.
Since all chusen dyeing is done by hand, there may be individual differences in the degree of dye bleeding and color application. We hope you will appreciate the slight color unevenness or areas where the dye may not have fully penetrated, as these are characteristic of hand-dyeing.
[Starching]Using a stencil, a resist paste is carefully applied to areas where the pattern is to be preserved. This paste prevents the dye from soaking into the fabric, resulting in clear outlines for the pattern.
[Dyeing (Chusen)]This is the process of pouring dye from above using a tool called a "yakkan" (a type of kettle). The poured dye thoroughly soaks into the fabric from the top to the bottom, resulting in a beautiful finish that is the same on both sides. The bleeding and subtle variations, unique to handwork, are also part of the charm of chusen dyeing.
[Washing]After dyeing, the fabric is carefully washed in a tank to remove any excess dye or paste that is not fixed. This washing process settles the colors and creates a soft texture.
[Drying]The washed fabric is hung high and dried naturally by the wind and sunlight. The sight of the fabric swaying gently in the wind is one of the beautiful scenes unique to chusen dyeing.
