The "Shiawase no Mon'yō" (Patterns of Happiness) series is an original design created in collaboration with textile designers, focusing on the "meaning of wishing for happiness" inherent in traditional Japanese patterns. It is an exclusive design by Fuwa Market.
One of the series, Nanten (Japanese sacred holly), is a plant that has been cherished since ancient times as a "magical protector" and "ward against evil."
We have modernized this auspicious motif to harmonize with contemporary lifestyles.

A book filled with Japanese beauty that makes writing enjoyable.
**Japanese Stab Binding** is a traditional Japanese bookbinding technique. It involves sewing paper together with thread to integrate the cover and spine into one piece.
The handmade notebooks are carefully bound by hand, offering a gentle opening experience and developing a rich, familiar feel with use.
Because they are sewn tightly with thread, pages are less likely to fall out, allowing for long-term use.
They pair well with fountain pens and brush pens, providing an excellent writing experience.
Ideal for diaries, travel journals, sketchbooks, poetry collections, idea notebooks, and turning everyday writing into a special moment.
**The Charm of Hand-Dyed Craftsmanship**
The hand-dyed Washi paper used in these Japanese stab-bound notebooks is crafted by Yuzen Washi dyeing artisans at a specialized factory in Kyoto, each piece finished by hand.
The deep, rich colors and unique textures achieved through traditional techniques are truly captivating.
Close-up images of the patterns reveal the delicate overlapping of colors characteristic of hand-dyeing.
Subtle gradations and bleeding enhance the handcrafted feel, creating a one-of-a-kind beauty.
Each sheet is carefully dyed individually, producing depth and warmth that cannot be achieved with simple printing.
The finished hand-dyed Washi paper is then meticulously assembled by Kyoto’s box-making artisans, with each notebook slightly different in expression, adding a sense of exclusivity.
Please experience the warmth and texture created by the artisans’ craftsmanship.
**The Wishes and Prayers Embedded in the Nanten Pattern**
**Nanten (Japanese sacred holly)**
Nanten was introduced from China during the Heian period and has long been valued as a medicinal plant that suppresses coughs.
From late autumn to early winter, it produces glossy red berries, and its name, "Nanten," is read as "difficult to turn" or "nan-ten," symbolizing the wish to "turn difficulties into happiness."
It is also believed to ward off evil spirits when placed at the entrance.
An encyclopedia from the Edo period states, "Planting Nanten prevents fires," and many households planted it in inauspicious directions as a fire prevention measure, protecting the safety of the home.
Available in two colors: a warm red tone and a refreshing blue tone. While subdued, these colors are distinctive and make excellent items to brighten daily writing.
*Please note:* Because the patterns are created by cutting large sheets of paper, there may be individual differences in pattern placement. Thank you for your understanding.
