Product Name: TCB Jeans Seamen's JumpersMaterial: 100% CottonCountry of Origin: Japan
This is a Seamen's Jumper created with the aim of reproducing the USN Deck Jacket from the 1940s.It is based on vintage deck jackets owned by TCB.
The Seamen's Jumpers are made based on a vintage 1940s USN Deck Jacket owned by TCB.The sewing thread is selected carefully, with attention to the gauge and color for each part.
While the silhouette traces vintage clothing, the body width and sleeves are slightly tapered to maintain a modern, wearable shape that does not compromise the vintage atmosphere. This silhouette is designed to be suitable for contemporary wear.(Excerpt from TCB Jeans website)
The fabric used is a 10-ounce denim, carefully selected by TCB Jeans. It has a slightly lighter weight feel. With repeated wear and washing, it will develop a vintage-like texture through aging.
The fabric is made from natural slub yarns rather than the computer-controlled uneven yarns currently mainstream, using 10oz denim with natural slubs.Although selvage edges are not used in the finished product, the fabric is woven on a shuttle loom, producing selvage denim. For durability during heavy use, pre-dyed gray sewing thread is used.(Excerpt from TCB Jeans catalog)
The jacket is based on a vintage denim jacket known as the "Hetchima collar," which was adopted early by the US Navy.It was worn by Marines for utility purposes such as deck work. The design faithfully reproduces the original.
The collar is a shawl collar, one of the distinctive features of the deck jacket.Since it is a denim jacket that can develop attractive fade, please be careful of color transfer when pairing with white shirts or similar items.
The front pockets are patch pockets, typical of workwear. The pocket openings are double-stitched for durability.Attention to detail has been maintained throughout the design.
The buttons are also reproduced. They are resin change buttons made to order by TCB Jeans.Initially shiny, they will gradually mellow and eventually resemble the original buttons.
The buttons are secured with rings. This button construction is a detail commonly seen in workwear and military jackets from before the 1930s.In the era when laundry was done with washboards, buttons were often removed to prevent damage to the fabric. This is a classic detail that became less common after washing machines became widespread in the 1940s.
The jacket is sewn with a rare Singer 99 sewing machine, which is now only operated by a few.For the best change buttons, ventilation holes and eyelets are also made to the highest standards.Although no longer used today, the machine is set up similarly to vintage 1940s models, and I traveled to meet the person called the "sewing god" who operates it.(Excerpt from TCB Jeans catalog)
The jacket features extensive use of flat-felled seams on the shoulders, armholes, and sides, following vintage deck jacket construction.Flat-felled seams are suitable for mass production because they can be sewn in one pass, compared to other methods like felled or overlocked seams. They are simple, aesthetically pleasing, and provide strong durability.
The sleeves are plain, without additional buttons, maintaining a vintage-inspired design. They can be rolled up, making the jacket versatile for warmer weather.
Inside the hem, "TCB" and the size are stenciled by hand, with each stencil applied individually.
