■Product Name: TCB jeans Boss of the Cat Overall■Material: 100% Cotton■Country of Origin: Japan
This is the BOSS OF THE CAT OVERALL from TCB jeans. It is produced based on a vintage Boss of The Road from the 1920s.These overalls are packed with TCB jeans' signature attention to detail and are designed to age beautifully.
We have created overalls based on the 1920s Boss of The Road. The name is BOSS OF THE CAT OVERALL.A single pocket is rare enough, but my favorite feature is the chest pocket with its distinctive stitching, which I've admired for a long time. It's truly a mystery how such a seemingly haphazard yet thoughtfully designed three-compartment pocket could be created 100 years ago. This is a 2x1 denim woven with uneven yarn, weighing 10.2oz in an 8x14 count. The fabric used for this garment is selvedge denim woven on an old power loom. However, the original vintage piece does not utilize the selvedge. Therefore, although it may seem like a waste, we have not used the selvedge in the finished product. If not using the selvedge, we could have used double-width fabric (woven on a modern shuttleless loom) to reduce material usage. However, after repeated trials, we found that fabric woven on an old power loom best captures the vintage atmosphere. When we analyze fabrics in the usual 13-14oz range, we often find yarn counts like 7x6 or 7x9. However, this fabric is characterized by a significant difference between the warp (8 count) and weft (14 count) yarns. Why is this done?Imagine high-quality, finely knitted fabric. By using a finer yarn for the weft, it can be woven at a higher density. This allows for the reproduction of durability comparable to heavy ounce fabrics, despite being only 10oz.Furthermore, because the warp yarn is thicker than the weft yarn, it is expected to produce vertical fading with a distinct streakiness when worn. The expression of this 2x1 fabric, with its significant gap from its raw state, is something to look forward to.Additionally, while the rope-dyed indigo for the warp is a deep color, the weft yarn is meticulously crafted to a very light beige.Dyeing the weft yarn might have been a technique to make the fabric appear darker in color back then, but considering it was also a way to make the fabric look luxurious with fewer dyeing cycles and to make dirt less noticeable, even the reverse side of the fabric seems charming. This material can be considered the origin of 2x1 work selvedge denim.Excerpt from TCB jeans catalog
The chest piece is called a bib.It is said that the bib was created to prevent clothes from getting dirty and for storage. It is a functional design typical of workwear. The bib features three pockets and buttonholes for a pocket watch. These are distinctive pockets.
We thoroughly researched the patents previously obtained by the Boss of the Road company. However, we found that this pocket did not have a trademark or a specific name. The Boss of the Road logo features a bulldog, and dogs are known to hide food or bones. This behavior is called "hoarding," similar to how animals like squirrels store food for hibernation. Therefore, we internally refer to this pocket as the "Hoarding Pocket," with the message of wanting the wearer to "secretly put their favorite item in this pocket and go out."Excerpt from TCB jeans catalog
The buttons are custom-made two-prong buttons specifically for the Boss of the Cat Overall. The buttons are engraved with "BOSS OF THE CAT."
It features a button fly.The buttons used in this section are also custom-made two-prong buttons for the Boss of the Cat Overall.
The suspenders use a set hook system that attaches to triangular buckles. This is a classic design that is easy to attach and detach, and stays securely in place when worn.*The color of the suspender buckles may be a mix of silver and brass. The suspender buckles are what are called "set hooks," seen in the 1910s-20s. This is a classic design where a hook attaches to a triangular metal fitting, without the use of buttons.(The factory that previously produced these fittings has gone out of business, and it is uncertain if they can be produced in the future. We have secured enough for the first production run, so all units will come with these fittings. However, there is a possibility of specification changes in the future. It feels like small factories that can produce these vintage-like subsidiary materials are closing down one after another recently. This is one of the challenges for future manufacturing...)Excerpt from TCB jeans catalog
There is a tool pocket on the right side.It is a vertically oriented pocket, said to have been used for storing tools and work implements. The left side has a simple design without a pocket.
The label is a cloth label produced based on vintage motifs. There are 8 types of label designs. Please note that they will be sent randomly.
The original inspiration featured a dog as the character, but this time we've used a cat. TCB has previously transformed characters like black bears, cows, horses, and Uncle Steve into cats! While we usually faithfully reproduce the animal's pose to maintain the atmosphere of the original, this time we've indulged ourselves by using 8 different types of cats.(Please note that the designs will be sent randomly.)Excerpt from TCB jeans catalog
