**What is Hokutolite?**
Hokutolite is a rare mineral discovered in only two locations: Beitou District in Taiwan and Tamagawa Onsen in Japan.
It is composed of barium sulfate and lead sulfate and is characterized by its trace radioactivity due to containing radium.
Although it was continuously collected after its discovery in 1906, collection has been prohibited since it was designated a Special Natural Monument in 1952.
Therefore, resources are limited, and many counterfeit products are in circulation.
Radon (gas) is generated from radium (solid). Radium is classified into the uranium series and thorium series, which generate radon-222 and radon-220, respectively.
While the latter has a short half-life of about 55 seconds, the former has a half-life of about 3.8 days, providing a stable effect.
