1つ1つ職人により丹精を込めて作られた、東京浅草の桐工芸品製造「箱長」の木工品です。
こちらは桐材で作られた、アクセサリー収納ケースです。
桐材は、昔から箪笥（たんす）の材料として使われてきました。
それには理由があります。
１つは、湿気対策。
湿度が高くなると、桐材が湿気を吸収し、膨張します。
すると、タンスの隙間が塞がれて密閉性が高くなり、中には湿気が入り込まなくなります。
逆に乾燥してくると、桐材は収縮します。
適度な隙間ができて通気性が良くなり、中の湿気を外へ逃します。
２つ目は、桐が燃えにくいこと。
桐材は熱伝導性が低く、例えばボヤが起きたとしても、その熱がタンスの中まではなかなか届かないのです。
つまり、桐のタンスは中身を守ってくれるんですね。
そんな桐材を使用した、昔ながらのデザインの収納グッズです。
ちりめん生地が木目込まれた装飾は、純和風。
