The new obon is the day when the spirit of the deceased first returns to the home. It is customary to invite a priest to recite sutras and to serve food to those gathered.
Depending on the region, white lanterns without patterns are used for obon. These white lanterns are used only in the year of the new obon and are disposed of after the obon festival.

【About the product】
Rokka lanterns are lanterns that allow you to enjoy creating your own patterns.
You can make white mon-ten for the new obon and floral-patterned lanterns for subsequent obon festivals.
It has a simple design where you just place a resin fire bag over a wooden base. Please see the video for detailed assembly instructions.
■ Creating white mon-ten with shadow effects on the panels
After setting the patterned panels, cover with washi paper shades to complete.
The pattern panels include three麻の葉 (hemp leaf) patterns and three 七宝 (shippo) patterns, totaling six panels that can be assembled along a hexagon. The way you assemble them allows you to enjoy various pattern combinations.
When lit, the shadow effects of the panels become prominent, giving an impression similar to a shade lamp. When turned off, the patterns are almost invisible.
■ Creating floral-patterned lanterns with patterned shades
You can choose from two types of patterned shades: Candy (blue) and Hanamizuki (pink). Please purchase the one you prefer.
After setting the patterned shade, cover with the washi paper shade to complete.
When lit, elegant floral patterns appear through the washi paper. When turned off, the patterns are almost invisible.
To light the lantern, use a USB Type-C to Type-A cable (about 1 meter long) and a USB outlet.
The lantern's switch is operated via the ON/OFF switch on the base.

【About Obon】
Obon is a ceremony to welcome the spirits of ancestors and close family members who have passed away. It begins with the "mukaebi" (welcoming fire) and ends with the "okuribi" (sending fire).
Within households, decorate with obon lanterns as mukaebi and okuribi to honor the spirits. Since it is the time once a year when ancestors return, do your best to welcome them within your means.
Traditionally,
White lanterns for the new obonwere prepared by the family of the deceased, while
patterned obon lanterns (used every year)were generally prepared by relatives and acquaintances. However, due to recent changes in living environments, the display locations have shifted from Buddhist altars to living rooms and other spaces, leading to a trend where the family of the deceased
prepares all lanterns and obon supplies, while relatives and acquaintances prepare offerings (cash, incense, etc.).Additionally, the timing for decorating varies by household. While many start decorating from the first day of obon (迎え盆) on the 13th to the final day on the 16th, some begin gradually during the obon month (July or August) to avoid rushing on the day itself.
Hasegawa responds to various requests regarding obon offerings and ceremonies.
