**About the Kyoto Ippitsu Ryu Artist / Keisuke Teshima:**Fascinated by dragons since childhood, he has continued to draw dragon images. Influenced by 14 years of karate from age 6, where he learned the spirit of Japanese martial arts, he encountered the traditional 'Ippitsu Ryu' and was deeply impressed by its technique, history, and significance, feeling it was his destiny. He learned the technique through self-study. While preserving the tradition of the Edo-period Ippitsu Ryu, he pursues the art with the spirit of 'Shuhari' (learning, detachment, mastery). He is considered one of only three Ippitsu Ryu artists in Japan. Originally from Fukuoka Prefecture, he was guided by fortunate and inevitable encounters to establish his atelier in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto—a city with a 1,000-year history where dragons are believed to dwell.
**Kyoto, the City of Dragon Deities:**Kyoto has been regarded for over 1,000 years as a place imbued with the power of dragon deities residing in dragon holes and dragon veins. Many shrines and temples associated with dragons exist, and pilgrimages to worship these dragon deities have been actively carried out from ancient times to the present.
**Dragon (Ryujin) Belief in Japan:**Japan has long been considered a mysterious land where dragons dwell, regarded as divine messengers or even as the gods themselves. Many shrines, temples, myths, and legends worship the dragon deity, symbolizing prosperity and protection.
