吉兆書包みは、室町期に生まれた、書院造の頃より現代まで息づく襖（ふすま）に使用する紗紙を使用して作られました。
この素材に使われている紗紙とは、主に襖用に製造され、その風合いと耐久性がよろこばれ、昭和期には大量に生産されてきました。
近年の生活様式によって、生産が少なくなってきた味わいのある素材です。
