Maitreya was called Maitreya in ancient India, meaning one born of compassion.
Because he is promised to become a Buddha, he is also called Miroku Buddha or Miroku Nyorai.
It is said that he will become a Buddha 5.67 billion years after Shakyamuni's death, appear in this world, and save those who were not saved by Shakyamuni's teachings.
5.67 billion years later is almost the same as the remaining lifespan of the solar system, including the Earth, before its extinction.
Currently, he is training in the heavenly realm called Tushita, located above Mount Sumeru, which towers over the center of the Buddhist world.
