In collaboration with Yumemiya, which handles interior accessories and miscellaneous goods made with chirimen, we developed our original chirimen seasonal arrangement box.
Yumemiya's products are all handmade from design to manufacturing, carefully crafted by Kyoto artisans one by one.

Chirimen is a traditional Japanese woven fabric. Unlike regular cloth, it uses twisted (braided) threads to intentionally shrink the fabric, creating a textured surface with unevenness.
Its good texture and soft feel make it widely used as fabric for traditional Japanese clothing.

Chirimen has a luxurious and calm atmosphere, and is often used not only for kimono but also for furoshiki, kinchaku, covers for goshuincho, Japanese accessories, and increasingly for Buddhist altar accessories such as juzu bags and fukusa.

Obon is a traditional event to welcome the spirits of ancestors and close family members who have passed away into this world. It begins with the 'Mukaebi' (welcoming fire) and ends with the 'Okuribi' (sending fire).
In households, Bon lanterns are arranged as Mukaebi and Okuribi to honor the spirits of ancestors and deceased family members. Since it is the time once a year when ancestors return, do your best to offer warm hospitality within your means.

Traditionally,White lanterns for Shinbon (new Obon)were prepared by the family of the deceased, andLanterns with designs (used annually) were generally prepared by relatives and acquaintances.However, due to recent changes in living environments, the placement and space for decorations have shifted from Buddhist altar rooms to living rooms and other areas, influencing the way families prepare. As a result, the family of the deceased oftenprepares all lanterns and Obon supplies, while relatives and acquaintances tend to prepare offerings (cash, incense, etc.).Furthermore, the timing to start decorating varies by household. Although the main decoration period is from the 13th (beginning of Obon) to the 16th (final day), many start gradually in the Obon month (July or August) to avoid rushing on the day itself.
