In addition to radar, many other types of sensors are used to detect, track, and identify targets. Radars have found application in self-driving cars, robotics, and medical diagnosis. In all these systems the target's RCS must be quantified and incorporated into the system design and operation. Commercial applications have helped to drive down the size, weight, and cost of radar sensor systems. The development of composite and artificial materials continues as well. Artificial metamaterials is an increasingly active area of research. In addition to new discussions in the developing areas already mentioned, more homework problems and examples have been added to this new edition. The presentation of the material assumes that the student has mastered electromagnetics at an undergraduate level. Completion of a course inantennas also is a helpful prerequisite to this book, although students without an antenna background have successfully mastered the material presented here.
