◆About the Producer Cooperative: Permata Gayo Cooperative

The farm is located in a mountainous area about a 7-hour drive south of Banda Aceh city in northern Sumatra, Indonesia. Perhaps due to its distance from the capital, Jakarta, this region has fortunately not used pesticides or chemical fertilizers since ancient times. Therefore, the Permata Gayo Cooperative, leveraging the benefits of traditional organic cultivation, obtained organic certification in 2007 and Fair Trade certification the following year. They continue to strive to ship high-quality specialty coffee by providing environmental education and training. All of this is driven by the desire to increase the income of their member farmers.

3. Shade-Grown

Shade-grown refers to cultivation under the canopy of rainforest trees. This traditional coffee cultivation method, which coexists with forests, is a significant factor in preventing deforestation. This cultivation method preserves the natural environment and ecosystem of coffee-producing regions for the future.
