I was born and raised in Saitama Prefecture.
I visited the "Ki-no-ri-kan" (Tree Power Museum) in Saitama Prefecture
and met the director, who, even past the age of 80, is still passionately sharing the goodness of wood.
He is truly a missionary for conveying the importance of wood,
and the museum is filled with the calming scents of cypress andhiba.
One thing that impressed me when the director taught me about wood was this:
Young trees absorb a lot of carbon dioxide and release oxygen.
After about 70 years, they finally become mature trees.
In human terms, they become "old men."
While human old men, for some reason, emit an unpleasant "old man smell,"
with trees, for example, cypress,
after about 70 years, you can perceive a wonderful cypress scent.
It's a scent that makes you feel like you're in a forest.
Even if the scent disappears due to drying,
if you quickly wipe the surface of the wood with a damp cloth,
the wonderful scent returns.
