因幡の白兎（いなばのしろうさぎ）
昔、因幡の海岸に住んでいた白兎が、ある時、大水にあって隠岐島に流されました。この白兎はサメ（ワニザメ）をだまして因幡の海岸に帰ろうとした為、体毛をすっかり抜き取られ、赤裸にされ困っていたところ、大国主命（おおくにぬしのみこと）に出会いました。そして『真水で体を洗い、ガマの穂綿を集めて、地面に敷き、その上を転げまわったのち、静かに寝ていれば、お前のからだは元どおりになる』と教えられました。
助けられた白兎は、お礼に大国主命と八上姫（やがみひめ）との縁を結んだとされています。
この海岸は鳥取県にあり『白兎の海岸』といい、この話は神話として今も残っています。この兎をだるまの様にして、郷土玩具として親しまれています。
倉吉はこた人形工房（鳥取県倉吉市）
起き上がりのようにバランスを崩しても立ち直るよう足元に重しを入れています。工程としては兎の木型に和紙を貼り重ね、乾燥後、木型から和紙部分を外し、重しを下部に取り付けます。その後、胡粉を塗り重ね、最後に彩色（色付け）を施しております。手間な仕事で数はたくさん作ることはできませんが愛着の増す和やかな玩具です。
＊濡れた手で触ったり水拭きしたりすると彩色が滲みますのでご注意ください。
＊製品の性質上、直射日光や高温多湿は避けてください。
