A poem of visuals and music that transcends the boundaries of documentary, themed around the "Festival of Snow and Ice." A masterpiece of sports documentary film! Long-awaited Blu-ray release. This is the official film of the 1968 Winter Olympics held in Grenoble, France. It is a highly artistic work that goes beyond mere documentary, and the main theme by Francis Lai is known as a masterpiece representing French film soundtracks. The 10th Winter Olympics, held from February 6th to 18th, 1968, in Grenoble, the prefecture capital of the Isère department in southeastern France. A total of eight cameramen, including Claude Lelouch and François Reichenbach, who were on-site, captured both the Olympic competitions and the surrounding events on film. This film, "13 Jours en France" (original title), attempts to convey the story almost solely through the power of visuals, without any narration or subtitles. The cameramen, equipped with small handheld cameras, ran alongside skiers, and cameras became the eyes of figure skaters, capturing the powerful spectacle of high-speed spins on the ice. In addition to this, the recorded footage captures the hustle and bustle of the competition venues and the momentary silences that fall upon them, directly conveying the atmosphere of the time to the viewer. The music, including the now-famous theme song by Lelouch's close friend Francis Lai (composer) and Pierre Barouh (lyricist), sometimes enhances the visuals lyrically and sometimes supplements them critically. This film is a must-see for winter sports fans, as it offers glimpses of the heroic figures and true faces of star athletes of the time, such as Jean-Claude Killy (alpine skiing) and Peggy Fleming (figure skating).
