The soundtrack of this immortal musical film starring George Chakiris and Natalie Wood was an extraordinary hit, recording 54 weeks at number 1 on the Billboard album chart at the time of release, a record that still remains unbroken. It won 10 awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (George Chakiris), and Best Supporting Actress (Rita Moreno) at the Academy Awards.
