Toscanini Masterpiece Collection [11]
■ Arturo Toscanini, who left a huge mark on 20th-century music history. In the first half of his life, mainly performed in European and American opera houses, and in the latter half, as a concert conductor, he mastered a wide repertoire and performed at a high level. Especially from 1937, his activities with the NBC Symphony Orchestra are among the earliest successful examples of media mix in music art.■ Selected masterpieces from the vast recordings left by RCA, using remastering supervised by John Pfeiffer, who was involved in Toscanini’s recordings during his lifetime, reproduced with the design of analog LP jackets.■ Toscanini actively performed Wagner’s operas in Italy and America, and was highly praised at the Bayreuth Festival, the composer’s home ground. This two-disc set covers major orchestral works from "Lohengrin" to "Parsifal" performed after World War II. The three recordings from December 1949 are among RCA’s earliest tape recordings.
