About the Fabric:The fabric is made from vibrant kimono and obi textiles used on celebratory days during the Showa era. Some materials and weaves are rare and have already ceased production.The patterns include auspicious floral motifs, birds, gold thread embroidery, and Nishijin weaving, collected from all over Japan.Because of the high-quality raw materials, this remade product is only possible through recycling and upcycling.
About the Sewing:Manufactured in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan’s largest bag production area.Produced by skilled bag artisans at companies that sell the necessary materials and own YKK zippers.Pattern placement, orientation, and the front-back direction of the obi-jime are decided in Tokyo. Subsequently, molds are created at a factory that produces molds, which are then used to cut the fabric and sew the bag.Kimono and obi fabrics vary in embroidery, weave, thickness, and texture, making each piece labor-intensive and challenging even for experienced artisans.In Toyooka, the tradition of basketry using willow, originating from the "Kago" woven with willow branches mentioned in the Kojiki, has been passed down for over a thousand years.Under strict quality control cultivated through this long-standing tradition, the bags are produced.
