About the Fabric:The fabric is made from vibrant kimono and obi materials used on celebratory days in the Showa era. Some of these are rare textiles and weaves that are no longer in production. The patterns include auspicious floral motifs, birds, gold thread embroidery, and Nishijin weaving, collected from all over Japan. Because of the high-quality raw materials, this item is only possible as a remade (used) and upcycled product.
About the Sewing:Manufactured in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, the largest bag production area in the country. The materials are supplied by companies that also produce zippers (YKK) in their own factories, and the sewing is done by experienced bag artisans. Pattern placement, orientation, and the front/back of the obi belt are decided in Tokyo. The fabric is then cut and sewn using molds created in a dedicated factory, based on these instructions.
Kimono and obi fabrics vary in embroidery, weaving, thickness, and texture, making sewing challenging even for skilled artisans. The traditional craft of willow basket weaving, inherited from the techniques described in the Kojiki, is also part of the craftsmanship. Under strict quality control cultivated over a thousand years, the products are carefully made.
Precautions for Purchase:Fabric: The kimono, obi, and obi cords used are previously worn or stored items. Therefore, there may be creases, small stains, dirt, damage, or deterioration. While efforts are made to exclude these, some may remain. Please understand that this product is a recycled, upcycled item from older or used materials.
Color: We take great care to display accurate colors, but slight differences may occur due to monitor settings on your computer or mobile device. Please understand that the actual product may vary slightly in hue.
Size: Although cut uniformly with molds and sewn by skilled artisans, the thickness and embroidery of each kimono and obi vary. Some thicker obi or heavily embroidered items may result in slight size differences or a smaller fit. Your understanding is appreciated.
Handling:Since the fabrics are likely silk, but used items, we recommend washing with a silk-specific detergent or consulting a professional kimono cleaner. Be cautious of color bleeding or transfer caused by water, sweat, friction, or rain. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight to prevent discoloration or hardening. Store in a cool, dark, well-ventilated place away from other items. Be careful to avoid snagging with nails or protrusions and friction.
The magnetic clasps may affect electronic devices such as watches, IC cards, or pacemakers. Please handle with care.
