About the Fabric:The fabric is made from vibrant kimono and obi materials used on celebratory days in the Showa era. Some of these are rare textiles and weaves that are no longer in production. The patterns include auspicious floral motifs, birds, gold thread embroidery, and Nishijin weaving, collected from all over Japan.
Because the raw materials are high-quality, this remade product is only possible through recycling and upcycling.
About the Sewing:Manufactured in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, the largest bag production area in the country. It is produced by experienced bag artisans at companies that sell the necessary materials and have their own factories for zippers (YKK).
Pattern placement, orientation, and the front/back of the obi belt are decided in Tokyo. Then, molds are created at a dedicated factory, which are used to cut the fabric and sew the bag.
Kimono and obi fabrics vary in embroidery, weaving, thickness, and texture, making sewing very labor-intensive and challenging even for skilled artisans.
In Toyooka, the tradition of basketry using willow, originating from the "Kago" woven from willow branches mentioned in the Kojiki, has been passed down for over a thousand years. Under strict quality control cultivated through this long-standing tradition, the products are made with care.
Precautions for Purchase:Fabric: The kimono, obi, and obi cords used are previously worn or stored items. Therefore, there may be creases, small stains, dirt, scratches, or deterioration. While efforts are made to exclude these, some may remain. Please understand that this product is made by recycling and upcycling older or vintage materials.
Color: We take great care to display accurate colors, but differences may occur between the photos and the actual product due to monitor settings on computers or mobile devices. Please understand in advance.
Size: Although cut uniformly with molds and sewn by skilled artisans, the thickness and embroidery of each kimono and obi vary, which may cause slight size discrepancies, such as a smaller fit for thicker or heavily embroidered obi. Thank you for your understanding.
Handling:The kimono, obi, and obi cords are presumed to be silk, but since they are used, this cannot be guaranteed. (The Consumer Affairs Agency states that there is no obligation to include such details on the product.) Please wash with a silk-specific detergent or consult a professional kimono cleaning service.
