About the Fabric:The fabrics used are from vibrant kimono and obi worn during celebratory days in the Showa era. Some materials and weaves are rare and have already ceased production. The patterns include auspicious floral motifs, birds, gold thread embroidery, and Nishijin weaving, collected from all over Japan. Because of the high-quality raw materials, this item is only possible as a recycled (used) remake.
About the Sewing:Manufactured in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, the largest bag production area. The production is carried out by experienced bag artisans at companies that sell bag materials and have YKK zippers in-house. Pattern placement, orientation, and the front-back direction of the obi belt are decided in Tokyo. Then, molds are created at a dedicated factory, which are used to cut the fabric and sew the bag.
Kimono and obi fabrics vary in embroidery, weave, thickness, and texture, making sewing challenging even for skilled artisans. The traditional technique of willow basket weaving, inherited from Toyooka’s craft traditions, is also involved. Under strict quality control developed over a thousand years, the product is carefully crafted.
Notes for Purchase:Fabric: The kimono, obi, and obi cords used are previously worn or stored items. As a result, there may be creases, small stains, dirt, damage, or deterioration. We take care to exclude these, but some may remain. Please understand that this product is an upcycled, recycled item from older or vintage materials.
Color:While we make every effort to display accurate colors, differences may occur due to monitor settings on your computer or mobile device. Please understand that the actual product may vary slightly in hue.
Size:Cut uniformly with molds and sewn by skilled artisans. However, since each kimono and obi varies in thickness and embroidery, some items may be slightly smaller or have size discrepancies, especially with thicker obi or heavily embroidered fabrics. We appreciate your understanding.
