About the Fabric:It uses vibrant kimono and obi fabrics that were worn on special days during the Showa era. Some of these materials and weaves are rare and no longer in production. The patterns include auspicious motifs such as floral and bird designs, with gold thread, embroidery, and Nishijin weaving, collected from all over Japan.
Because the raw materials are high-quality, this remade product is only possible through recycling and upcycling.
About the Sewing:Manufactured in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan’s largest bag production area. It is produced by experienced bag artisans at companies that sell the necessary materials and have their own factories for zippers (YKK).
Pattern placement, orientation, and the front/back of the obi belt are decided in Tokyo. The fabric is then cut and sewn using molds created in a dedicated factory, based on these instructions.
Kimono and obi fabrics vary in embroidery, weaving, thickness, and texture, making each piece unique and sometimes challenging to sew even for skilled artisans.
In Toyooka, traditional techniques such as willow basketry from the "Kojiki" (Ancient Records) are inherited, including the craft of woven willow baskets called "Kago."
Under strict quality control cultivated over a thousand years of tradition, the products are carefully made.
Precautions for Purchase:
Fabric:The kimono, obi, and obi cords used are previously worn or stored items. Therefore, there may be creases, small stains, dirt, damage, or deterioration. While efforts are made to remove these, some may remain. Please understand that the items are recycled and upcycled, originating from older or non-new materials.
Color:While we take great care to display accurate colors, differences may occur between the photos and the actual product due to monitor settings on your computer or mobile device. Please understand this in advance.
Size:Although the items are cut uniformly with molds and sewn by skilled artisans, kimono and obi fabrics vary in thickness and embroidery, which can cause slight size discrepancies, such as a smaller fit for thicker obi or heavily embroidered pieces. Please understand this.
Handling:The kimono, obi, and obi cords are presumed to be silk, but due to their used condition, this cannot be guaranteed. (The Consumer Affairs Agency states that there is no obligation to include such details on the product.) Please wash with a silk-specific detergent or consult a professional kimono cleaning service.
Be cautious of color bleeding or transfer caused by water, sweat, friction, or rain.
Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause discoloration or hardening. Store in a well-ventilated, dark place, away from other items.
