This is a床掛軸 (hanging scroll) for the Thirteen Buddhas, intended for the Shingon sect, to be enshrined near the Buddhist altar during Obon, Higan, and memorial services.
It features the main thirteen Buddhas who oversee the main memorial services from the first seven days after death to the 33rd anniversary, and it is characterized by the depiction of Kobo Daishi, the founder of the Shingon sect, together with the Buddhas.

When displayed near the Buddhist altar or the Bon shelf, it creates a solemn atmosphere and enhances the Obon ambiance.
It can be used for all Buddhist ceremonies, and also for daily use to pray for the safety of your family and the prosperity of your household.

This piece was created by Mr. Shuichi Horibe, with a delicate hand-painted technique. It features metal fittings at the ends of the scroll, making it a genuine, authentic design. Additionally, a paulownia wood box is included for storing the hanging scroll, making it convenient for preservation.

【Meaning of the Thirteen Buddhas】
(1) Kobo Daishi: Founder of the Shingon sect.
(2) Jizo Bosatsu: Rescues the deceased at the time of Yama's judgment.
(3) Fudo Myo-o: Cuts off attachments with the sword in the right hand and guides with the silk cord in the left hand.
(4) Dainichi Nyorai: As the fundamental teacher of the universe, watches over all sentient beings.
(5) Ashuku Nyorai: Grants firm resolve toward new life.
(6) Samantabhadra Bosatsu: Teaches practices that utilize the wisdom of Manjushri.
(7) Shaka Nyorai: Teaches the principle of impermanence and alleviates anxiety.
(8) Yakushi Nyorai: Grants a new body after the end of mourning period.
(9) Manjushri Bosatsu: Grants wisdom to utilize the teachings of Shakyamuni.
(10) Amida Nyorai: As the master of the Pure Land, guides the deceased and teaches the correct teachings.
(11) Kokuon Bosatsu: Provides peace and helps become a 'Samantabhadra' (a perfected person).
(12) Seishi Bosatsu: As Akshobhya's attendant, leads the deceased.
(13) Miroku Bosatsu: As the second Shakyamuni, teaches the Dharma.
(14) Kannon Bosatsu: As Amida's attendant, lifts the deceased onto a lotus platform.

【Handling Precautions】
・Please use the included paulownia box for storage.
・When storing, gently dust with a soft feather duster and avoid tightly rolling it.
・To prevent mold and insect damage, take it out of the box and dry in the shade during clear spring and autumn days about twice a year.
・Avoid prolonged hanging to prevent loss of the scroll's natural flexibility. Also, avoid direct airflow from air conditioning, high humidity indoors, and direct sunlight.
