Pink Floyd's "5th Anniversary of Debut" all original albums are finally reissued in paper jacket format (Sony Press domestic CD release). Despite long-standing requests for re-paper-jacket releases, approval was not granted until negotiations were successful, making this the first reissue in 16 years. The packaging faithfully reproduces the UK original album jackets and accessories as much as possible (differing from previous paper jackets / A-style => E-style gatefold / coating on the front only / reprint of the Japanese first edition obi / inner sleeves, etc.). The remastering was done in 2021.
This album is a two-disc set featuring:
- Disc 1: Selected recordings from their popular performances at the Birmingham Mothers Club on April 27, 1969, and at Manchester Polytechnic on May 2.
- Disc 2: Contains groundbreaking new tracks incorporating musique concrète and other experimental techniques.
It is an unconventional two-disc album. The live side documents their emergence as a top live act and serves as a valuable record of that era. The studio side features tracks created with avant-garde methods exploring future possibilities, contrasting with the live recordings.
