The Urushima (Sea) Cup is a cup finished with a stainless steel body crafted using Tsubame-Sanjo's polishing techniques, and coated with traditional craftsman Yamanaka lacquerware lacquer.
It features a form and structure that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, embodying beauty beyond mere utility, akin to a work of art.
By blending craft techniques with industrial technology, it creates unique expressions and functionality not found elsewhere.
● About the Gold Leaf Series
The cup incorporates "Kanazawa Gold Leaf," a traditional craft inherited in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
It is applied using the hand-adhesion technique called "Kirimawashi," performed by artisans, ensuring that no two patterns are identical.
The finish employs the traditional Yamanaka-nuri's wipe-lacquer method, aiming to preserve the texture of the gold leaf as much as possible.
● Enhancing the qualities of lacquer and metal
The cup body is made of 18-8 stainless steel, shaped and polished in Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture.
The interior top is mirror-finished, while the lower part features spiral polishing marks, creating vigorous, creamy foam immediately when pouring beer.
The double structure minimizes water droplets and offers excellent insulation.
While utilizing the functionality of stainless steel, the exterior is finished with lacquer, adding a moist texture and a soft mouthfeel.
● Comes with a "Echizen Washi" coaster, a traditional craft of Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture
Echizen Washi is made in the Okata River basin area of Echizen, Fukui Prefecture.
The main raw material is bast fiber from plant inner bark, such as kozo, mitsumata, and ganpi.
Echizen Washi is characterized by its elegant, natural color (kina-iro) that stimulates rich sensibilities and its high quality.
