The skilled craftsmanship from renowned Japanese production areas enhances the deliciousness of beer and carbonated beverages. This cup features a stainless steel body finished with the polishing technology of Tsubame-Sanjo, coated with the lacquer of traditional Yamanaka lacquerware.
The Urushi-ma (Cima) cup has a stainless steel body finished with the polishing technology of Tsubame-Sanjo, coated with the lacquer of traditional Yamanaka lacquerware.
It possesses a form and structure that embodies the beauty of utility, and a beauty that transcends utility, like a work of art.
By fusing craft and industrial technology, it creates unique expressions and functionality.
● The sparkle of flowing water as a pattern
This is the first and long-loved series of the Urushi-ma brand. "Byakudan-nuri" is a traditional technique where patterns are drawn with gold and silver foil or powder, then coated with lacquer. In the Urushi-ma Byakudan series, a unique "Urushi-nagashi" (lacquer flow) technique is used to scatter gold powder, creating a pattern resembling sparkling flowing water.
● The joy of nurturing it through use
Immediately after lacquering, it has a deep amber color, but its hue will gradually change to a lighter shade at various speeds depending on the living environment and frequency of use. Vessels made with natural lacquer offer the joy of nurturing them through use, much like denim.
● Enhancing the qualities of lacquer and metal
The cup body is made of 18-8 stainless steel, formed and polished in Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture. The upper inner surface is mirror-finished, while the lower part has spiral polishing marks, creating a rich, creamy foam the moment beer is poured. Its double-wall construction prevents condensation and provides excellent heat retention. While utilizing the functionality of stainless steel, the exterior is finished with lacquer, adding a moist texture and a soft mouthfeel.
● Includes a coaster made of Echizen Washi, a traditional craft from Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture
Echizen Washi is Japanese paper produced in the Okada River basin of the Echizen region, Fukui Prefecture. The main raw materials for Japanese paper are bast fibers, the inner bark of plant epidermis, such as Kozo (mulberry), Mitsumata, and Ganpi. Echizen Washi is characterized by its elegant beauty in a natural (kinari) color that stimulates rich sensibility, and its high quality.
● Production Area Introduction... Ishikawa Prefecture, Kaga City (formerly Yamanaka Town) "Yamanaka Lacquerware"
The history of Yamanaka lacquerware, designated as a national traditional craft, dates back over 400 years to the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Lacquerware is typically completed by a woodturner who turns the wood, a lacquerer who applies the lacquer, and a maki-e artist who decorates it. Yamanaka lacquerware boasts top-tier technical skill and production volume in Japan for woodturning, but also excels in lacquering and maki-e techniques.
● Production Area Introduction... Niigata Prefecture, Tsubame-Sanjo "Polishing Technology"
Tsubame-Sanjo is a region where advanced and diverse metal processing technologies are concentrated, with roots in the production of Japanese nails during the Edo period. It is famously known that Apple was captivated by the quality of their polishing techniques. They hold a 90% domestic market share in Western metal tableware and are highly regarded both domestically and internationally, being selected for Nobel Prize banquets.
