The skilled craftsmanship from famous Japanese production areas enhances the flavor of beer and carbonated drinks. This cup features a stainless steel body finished with polishing techniques from Tsubame-Sanjo, and is coated with traditional craft Yamanaka lacquerware lacquer.

The Shima (Lacquer Polishing) Cup is a cup with a stainless steel body finished using polishing techniques from Tsubame-Sanjo, and coated with lacquer from the traditional craft Yamanaka lacquerware.

It boasts a form and structure that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing, embodying beauty that transcends mere utility—like a work of art. By blending craft techniques with industrial technology, it creates unique expressions and functionality not found elsewhere.

- The pattern mimics the sparkle of flowing water
This is the first product in the Shima brand and a long-loved series. The traditional technique called "Byakudan-nuri," where patterns drawn with gold and silver leaf or powder are coated with lacquer, is used. In the Shima series, a unique "Urushi Nagashi" (lacquer flowing) technique is employed to sprinkle gold dust, creating shimmering patterns that resemble flowing water.

- Enjoyment of aging through use
Immediately after finishing, the color is a deep caramel hue, but over time, depending on the environment and frequency of use, the color gradually lightens at various speeds. Since the vessel uses natural lacquer, it offers the pleasure of nurturing and aging it like denim, developing a unique character over time.

- Enhancing the qualities of lacquer and metal
The main body is made of 18-8 stainless steel, shaped and polished in Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata Prefecture. The interior upper part has a mirror finish, while the lower part features spiral polishing marks, which produce a lively, creamy foam when pouring beer. Its double structure minimizes water droplets and provides excellent insulation. While utilizing the functionality of stainless steel, the exterior is finished with lacquer, adding a moist texture and a soft touch to the mouthfeel.

- Comes with a "Echizen Washi" paper coaster from Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture
Echizen Washi is a traditional Japanese paper produced in the Okata River basin area of Echizen, Fukui Prefecture. The main raw material is inner bark fiber from plants such as kozo (paper mulberry), mitsumata, and gampi. Echizen Washi is characterized by its elegant, natural color (kina-iro) that stimulates rich sensibilities and its high quality.

- Production area introduction… Yamanaka Lacquerware from Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture (formerly Yamanaka Town)
Yamanaka Lacquerware, designated as a traditional craft of Japan, has a history dating back over 400 years to the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Lacquerware is generally crafted by woodturners shaping the wood, lacquersmiths applying lacquer, and makie (decorative inlay) artisans adding embellishments. Yamanaka Lacquerware boasts top-tier craftsmanship and production volume in Japan through lathe-turned wood bases, and excels in lacquering and makie techniques.

- Production area introduction… Niigata Prefecture, Tsubame-Sanjo "Polishing Techniques"
Tsubame-Sanjo is a region with a rich history of advanced and diverse metalworking techniques, originating from traditional Japanese nail-making during the Edo period. The quality of their polishing techniques is renowned; even Apple Inc. has been impressed. They hold a 90% share of the domestic market for Western-style metal tableware and are highly regarded both domestically and internationally, including being selected for Nobel Prize banquet ceremonies.
