Tsubaki Konpeito
Kusano Town in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, where Nanzanso is located, is known as the "Village of Camellias."Camellia trees can be seen throughout the town, and facilities such as the "World Camellia Museum" and "Camellia Park" have been developed, allowing visitors to see various types of camellias.
In the 1800s (late Edo period in Japan), Philipp Franz von Siebold, a German physician at the Dutch trading post in Nagasaki at the time, took many Japanese plants back to his home country of Germany when he returned.Among them was a camellia with red petals and white spots, later named "Donckelaeri," which became a huge hit in Europe. It is said that the origin of this camellia is Kusano Town in Kurume City.
Tsubaki Konpeito evokes distant memories of Philipp Franz von Siebold, a German physician who connected Japan, Germany, and Europe.Furthermore, camellias are highly valued as flowers in Japanese tea ceremonies. This is a beautiful, delicate, and delicious confection that embodies this delicate Japanese floral culture, shaped into konpeito, which also connects Europe and Japan.
Each color of konpeito has a different flavor. Please enjoy.
