三江線は日本海に接し山陰本線と接続する江津から芸備線と接続する三次までを結ぶ108.1kmの路線です。
1975年に全線開通し、地域輸送を中心に利用されてきましたが輸送量の減少に伴い、2018年3月31日で廃止が予定されています。
線内の中間地点近くに存在する宇都井駅は、1975年の浜原~口羽間の開通に伴い開設された駅で、前後をトンネルに挟まれるなど、山間地帯に路線をひいたため、地上20mの高所にホームが設置されました。
このため地上からホームまで116段の階段が設置されており、「天空の駅」という愛称でも呼ばれております。
この印象的な宇都井駅をいつまでもお手元に残して頂けるよう、駅コレクション第1弾として1/150 Nゲージスケールで製品化、中央の階段棟を挟んだ前後2脚、計4脚分、階段116段中110段を再現。
車両は2両が停車できるサイズとなっております。
