■ Staff CommentsThis is the LS80, an early model from Tokai's "Les Paul Reborn" series, which was only manufactured for a very short period from 1978 to 1979.This unit features the "Les Paul Reborn" logo on the headstock, characteristic of the early specifications, and is a valuable instrument now highly regarded worldwide as a Japan Vintage.The "80" stamp at the end of the fingerboard suggests it is an LS80, but a stamp of "LS100" has been confirmed inside the pickup cavity, leading to the speculation that higher-grade body wood used for the LS100 was employed.The variations in specifications unique to early Tokai models and the excellent wood selection at the production site at the time make this a highly attractive collector's item.While some parts, such as the tuners, appear to have been replaced, the pickups are original Gotoh PAF clones. The original tuners are also included, although they are damaged.The finish is all lacquer, and the sound is a bright, responsive tone reminiscent of vintage PAFs.
