2014年はアメリカ上陸、そして日本デビュー50周年のメモリアル・イヤー!
1964年2月7日、ビートルズは3000人ものファンの絶叫が響き渡るジョン・F・ケネディ空港に降り立った。
そして、以後2週の間にアメリカ最大の人気テレビ番組『エド・サリヴァン・ショー』に3回連続出演、ワシントンDCとニューヨークでのコンサートを挙行。
アメリカ全土を熱狂の渦に巻き込み、ショー・ビジネス史をまったく新しいディケイドに突入させて、イギリスに凱旋帰国を果たした。
その後もアメリカではビートルズ熱が冷めず、すでに全米シングル・チャート1位を独走していた「抱きしめたい」に続いてビートルズの曲が大量にランクイン。
4月4日付チャートでは、1位から5位までを独占する空前絶後の大記録を樹立した。
その熱気はすぐに日本を含む各国に伝播、同年の夏には初の主演映画『ハード・デイズ・ナイト』が公開され、世界を股にかけたビートルズ・ブームが始まった。
64年はビートルズにとって、そしてそれ以上にファンにとって、忘れられないメモリアル・イヤーなのである。
それから50年の節目となるのを記念して、2014年、ビートルズのアメリカ編集アルバム13組がCDボックス・セットで復刻されることになった。
