A comprehensive collection of photographs vividly documenting the advancing era of railways. This work is a photo album viewable in a slideshow format, featuring photographs of railways across Japan taken by Mr. Kazutaro Oishi, a former Japan National Railways employee, approximately half a century ago in the Showa 40s (1965-1974).
The slideshow introduces a vast selection of carefully curated images, allowing viewers to turn the pages of a photo album and vividly recall nostalgic trains.Impressive scenes include freight and passenger trains pulled by double- or triple-headed steam locomotives, diesel trains featuring the KiHa 58 series that expanded nationwide during that period, and interesting private railway vehicles.
The collection also reflects the era’s social atmosphere through nostalgic wooden station buildings, platforms, and the appearance of passengers. For those familiar with the period, these images evoke personal memories of the railway landscape; for those unfamiliar, they offer a glimpse into Japan’s railway scenes of a bygone, golden age.
Volume 3 of the complete trilogy covers lines in the Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu regions. It includes famous spots for steam locomotive photography such as the Bōbi Line D51, Tateno Switchback, and Yatake Pass on the Hōsatsu Line, as well as the now-abolished lines like the Kajiya-hara Line, Kurayoshi Line, and Hososhima Line. Also featured are valuable shots of locomotive No. 58654 active on the Yūzen Line, and C62 engines racing along the Sanyo Main Line and Kure Line.
As a special bonus, the collection includes carefully edited vertical-oriented photographs.
