◇ Taiheiki (1)The Nanboku-cho turmoil, beginning with the fall of the Kamakura Shogunate. The end of the Hojo clan, Emperor Go-Daigo's new government supported by the wisdom and bravery of Kusunoki Masashige and others, Ashikaga Takauji's defection and the separation of the Southern and Northern Courts, the establishment of the Muromachi Shogunate... This is the "Taiheiki" (40 volumes in total), chronicling the great war that shook the archipelago for decades. This is the first annotated edition based on the "Seigen-in bon," an early Muromachi period manuscript that conveys the ancient form of a text that profoundly influenced later generations.
◇ Taiheiki (2)In Genkō 3 (1333), Ashikaga Takauji raised an army to pursue the Hojo clan, with an imperial decree from Emperor Go-Daigo. The anti-shogunate forces, joined by Nitta Yoshisada, Akamatsu Enshin, and others, were unstoppable. In May, Hojo Takatoki and 873 others committed suicide, and the Kamakura Shogunate, which had lasted for 150 years, was destroyed. However, Emperor Go-Daigo's direct rule upon returning to Kyoto soon began to falter, and Takauji, who rebelled against the Kenmu government, fled to Kyushu.
