【Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Royal Ballet’s Premiere — Osipova & Clarke Shine in MacMillan’s "Manon"】
"Manon," choreographed by Kenneth MacMillan, is known alongside "Romeo and Juliet" as one of his representative works. In 2024, marking the 50th anniversary of its premiere at Covent Garden in 1974, the ballet features Natalia Osipova, who vividly portrays a modern Manon with exceptional physical ability and overwhelming acting talent, and Reece Clarke, her partner for five years now, whose partnership has become even more refined. The dynamic choreography explores the deep human psyche, torn between true love, wealth, and poverty.

Supporting cast members also deliver outstanding performances: Alexander Campbell as Lescaut, Manon’s wild brother; Mayara Magri as Lescaut’s seductive lover; Gari Avis as the lecherous Monsieur D.M., among others.

The music, a collage of Massenet’s compositions arranged by Leyton Lucas, seems crafted specifically for this ballet. The orchestra, led by renowned ballet music conductor Cohen Kessels, brings lively rhythms and beautifully melancholic melodies to life, greatly enhancing MacMillan’s storytelling ballet.
