Born April 23, 1957, in Tokyo. After working as a guitarist, he made his film debut in 1986 with Mamoru Oshii's "The Red Spectacles".
His works include "GHOST IN THE SHELL / Ghost in the Shell", "AVALON", "Innocence", "The Sky Crawlers" and other Oshii-directed films, as well as Hideo Nakata's "Ring", "Ring 2", "Glass Brain", "Chaos", "From the Depths of Darkness", "Kaidan", "L change the WorLd", "Inception", "Kuroyuri Apartment", "MONSTERZ", and works by director Hideo Tsuruta such as "Prophecy" and "Orochi".
He has also participated in films by director Takashi Shimizu such as "Rinne", as well as TV dramas including "Maison Ikkoku", "Ranma 1/2", "Mobile Police Patlabor", "Fate/stay night", "The Book of the Spirit Guardians", "Eden of the East" and others.
His international works include the French films "SAMOURAIS" and "BLOODY MALLORY", the French documentary "Reviving World War II - Colorized Black and White Films", Korean films "Southern Diary" and "Beautiful Beast", Hong Kong films "Seven Swords", "Kachikomi! Dragon Tiger Gate", "Ip Man", "The Legend of the Yang Family Seven Brothers", "Rise of the Sea Dragon: Mysterious Iron Claw", and collaborative films "Mo Gong" and "Genome Hazard: The Five Days of a Genius Scientist".

As a pioneer of multi-media development including comics, anime, and novels, "Mobile Police Patlabor" gained many passionate fans.
This fully original live-action project, directed by Mamoru Oshii who also worked on the anime series, features full-scale models of about 8 meters in length, including a life-sized Labors and a docked Section Two building.
Starting in April 2014, the new generation characters launched "THE NEXT GENERATION Patlabor". In this work, the culmination of that effort, the story depicts the possible terrorism in present-day Japan and the police organization’s fight against it, with the only fictional element being "the police having humanoid robots". It is portrayed on an extremely realistic and grand scale.

In the late 20th century, in response to crimes related to the rapid spread of humanoid robots called Labors, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police established the Special Vehicle Section Two Patrol Labor Unit.
Now, as Labors decline and become a burden to the police, a terrorist group hijacks the latest combat helicopter from the Self-Defense Forces, taking 10 million people in the capital hostage!
The AH-88J2 Kai Gray Ghost—equipped with machine guns, ground rockets, missiles, and clad in the latest thermal optical camouflage—is an invisible combat helicopter that begins its assault on the Rainbow Bridge and ravages the capital.
Can Section Two stop the terrorists’ reckless acts?!
