"Kanro" is born enveloped in a wondrous fragrance and is the sole sustenance for royalty with beastly fangs—or so the legend goes. In Haaroon, where such legends exist, Ortense, born of "Kanro," was raised as a candidate for the prince's betrothal, despite being the son of a marquis. He honed himself for the "marriage to royalty" that his father desired and possessed a beauty that everyone acknowledged, yet many also derided Ortense as an "evil daughter-in-law" for living as a pawn in his father's ambitions amidst the court embroiled in political strife.
One day, Ortense is sentenced to death for an assassination he has no memory of committing.
