Tartary Buckwheat Tea (150g) 100% Domestic Ingredients
Furudate Seimenjo uses 100% domestic Tartary buckwheat, primarily from Iwate Prefecture.
Tartary buckwheat contains approximately 100 times more rutin, a type of polyphenol, compared to regular Japanese buckwheat.
It also contains no caffeine, making it safe for children and for consumption before bedtime.
You can easily enjoy it using a teapot, just like regular tea.
It is a delicious tea with a mellow, slightly sweet flavor and a vibrant yellow color, which is characteristic of Tartary buckwheat and contains no artificial coloring.
What is Tartary Buckwheat Tea?
Tartary buckwheat is gaining attention on TV and elsewhere for containing over 100 times more "rutin" than Japanese buckwheat.
Our Tartary buckwheat at Furudate Seimenjo uses Tartary buckwheat flour cultivated by local contract farmers, and all our ingredients are domestically produced.
Here's how to enjoy our delicious Tartary Buckwheat Tea.
Easy to make with a teapot...
Using a teapot as you would for regular tea, add 1 tablespoon (approx. 10g) and pour in boiling water.
Let it steep for about 3 minutes to enhance the flavor.
Please be sure to use boiling water, not hot water from a pot.
Even more delicious, and can be chilled...
Add a tea bag containing about 20g to approximately 1 liter of boiling water, turn off the heat, and let it steep for about 5 minutes.
It can also be enjoyed chilled.
Beyond tea, for various uses...
After brewing tea, drain the used leaves, dry them in a pan, and mix with sesame salt or bonito flakes to make a delicious "Tartary Buckwheat Furikake" (rice seasoning).
You can also enjoy fragrant Tartary buckwheat rice by adding a small amount to your rice before cooking.
It can also be used as a topping for dishes, similar to sesame seeds.
It pairs exceptionally well with shochu, both hot and cold, as a diluent.
About Furudate Seimenjo
Founded in 1909 (Meiji 42)
Our town, Karumai Town in Iwate Prefecture, has a harsh climate with winter temperatures dropping below -15°C and cold winds called "yamase" blowing from the sea in the summer. However, this environment is ideal for cultivating high-quality grains such as millet, buckwheat, and wheat.
Consequently, we became the top producer of millet and charcoal in Japan, and at one time, there were over 10 noodle manufacturers in our town.
However, with the era of mass production and mass consumption, many businesses were forced to close due to competition from large noodle manufacturers using imported ingredients. Today, Furudate Seimenjo is the only remaining noodle manufacturer in our town.
Furudate Seimenjo was founded in 1909 and continues to be committed to local ingredients, strictly adhering to traditional manufacturing methods, and working with local farmers to revitalize our local industry.
