70年代半ばに始まったパンク・ニューウェイヴのうねりは遠い島国日本にも押し寄せ、満を持してニューヨークからやって来たのがトーキングヘッズである。勢いで押し切るラモーンズやピストルズと言ったパンク勢とは一線を画し“世界で最も知的なバンド”と、彼らを日本のマスコミは紹介した。セカンド・アルバムではブライアン・イーノを共同プロデュースに迎え、続くサード・アルバムにはキング・クリムゾンを解散し自身の方向を探っていたロバート・フリップも加勢。その中でアフロ・ビートを取り入れるなど果敢に新たな音楽性を模索し続ける姿勢、そこにどこか知性を感じるデヴィッド・バーンのステージでの佇まいもあいまって“知的”と評されたのであろう。トーキングヘッズ始動時のオリジナル・メンバー編成によるこのライヴ音源は、現存するサウンドボード部分をフル活用し、不足部分は超良好なオーディエンス録音で完全補完されている。1から6トラックまでのオーディエンス部は音圧に迫力のあるモノラル・オーディエンスが使われており、7曲目以降は楽器の分離抜群のステレオ・サウンドボードだ。6曲目が終わりじわりと拍手が左右に広がり、中後半戦はステレオ音源で畳みかけるという素晴らしい編集に仕上がっている。当時新たな時代の到来に沸き、新しい音楽の風を感じた若者たちが体感したトーキングヘッズの来日公演、ジャケットには当時のパンフレットへのオマージュがデザインされ、当時の空気感をも閉じ込めた素晴らしいアイテムに仕上がっている。プレス盤。必携コレクションである。
