Riko Arai (violin) Rio Arai
Born in 1999 in Tokyo.
After attending the Tokyo University of the Arts High School attached to Tokyo University of the Arts, she is currently a 4th-year student at Tokyo University of the Arts and a 2017 Tokyo University of the Arts Soji Tokuji Scholarship student.
1st place and Audience Award at the 15th Tokyo Music Competition Strings Division.
1st place at the 87th Japan Music Competition Violin Division, also receiving the Reucadia Award, Washimi Award, and Kuroyanagi Award.
6th place at the 7th Sendai International Music Competition Violin Division. Awarded the Fukushima Prize, Ataka Prize, and Ryohei Miyata Scholarship within Tokyo University of the Arts.
Received the Excellence Award at the 11th Music Academy in Miyazaki 2018.
Received the IMA Music Award at Music Academy in Ishikawa 2018.
Received the Excellence Award and Music Director Award at the 12th Miyazaki Music Academy 2019.
Performed with Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, Gunma Symphony Orchestra.
Performed at the 386th Hotel Okura Lobby Concert.
Also appeared at the special concert commemorating the opening of the new building of The Okura Tokyo.
Studied under Gerard Poulet, Takashi Nagamine, Kazuki Sawa, and Takashi Yamazaki.
Currently studying under Masafumi Hori and Natsuki Tamai.
2020 Yamaha Music Support System Scholarship student.
Her instrument is a J.B. Guadagnini from 1779, loaned by the ITOH Foundation.
