高岡銅器の歴史は、1609年、加賀藩主の前田利長が高岡城へ入城したことから始まります。
利長が高岡の町を開いた際、町の繁栄を図るために、1611年に礪波郡西部金屋村（現・高岡市戸出西金屋）から、金森弥右衛門ほか7人の鋳造師を現在の高岡市金屋町に呼び寄せ、そこから技術が浸透し、鋳物の町と呼ばれるに至ります。
こちらは古くから仏具の製造で知られる、富山県高岡市の大日如来像（だいにちにょらいぞう）です。
大日とは「大いなる日輪」という意味で、太陽を遙かに上回る光ですべてを照らすことを意味します。
密教では大日如来は宇宙の心理を現し、宇宙そのものを指します。
また、すべての命あるものは大日如来から生まれたとされ、釈迦如来も含めて他の仏は大日如来の化身と考えられています。
