Tajima Glass is a glass studio in Tokyo founded in 1965, specializing in "Edo Glass," handmade glass where artisans individually blow and shape each piece using techniques over 100 years old. Tajima Glass is internationally best known for its Mt. Fuji Glass series, which has won the "Omiyage Grand Prix," the highest award for Japanese souvenir gifts.
The Mt. Fuji Glass achieves a visually striking effect: the bottom of the glass is shaped by artisans to create a three-dimensional Mt. Fuji silhouette within the glass. When liquid is poured, the shape of Mt. Fuji appears to float within the drink, and its appearance changes depending on the color and level of the liquid. Beer shows a golden Mt. Fuji against white foam; red wine, a deep crimson Mt. Fuji; and water reveals the mountain in clear relief.
