The name "TOKIWA" is a tribute to the founder, Tokiwa Uede, and also incorporates the meaning of "everlasting" or "permanent" (常盤 - tokiwa), which has the same pronunciation.For 70 years since its founding, the company has been dedicated to eyewear manufacturing and will continue to pass down its legacy.

In 1951, the history of Uede Eyewear began with "Tokiwa Uede," the grandfather of the current president. Eyewear manufacturing began in the Kawada district, a small town in Sabae City, Fukui Prefecture, the birthplace of eyewear in Japan.The expertise in eyewear manufacturing was then passed down and established by the second-generation owner, Susumu Uede.In 2019, the original brand "TOKIWA" was established by the third-generation owner, Takayuki Uede.It was rebranded to "TOKIWA made" in December 2021.
