In 1940, during World War II, the Italian Navy submarine Comandante Cappellini began operational actions in the Atlantic to sink Allied ships. After narrowly escaping mines and aerial attacks by the British forces, it sinks a Belgian ship.
Is this ship a military vessel or a civilian ship?

Faced with the crew of the drifting Belgian ship, Captain Salvatore Todaro is forced to make an extreme choice.
The film vividly depicts the tense journey from departure, which could be called a voyage to death, through to breaking through the minefield in the Gibraltar Strait, capturing the claustrophobic world unique to submarine films.

After entering the Atlantic, the submarine sinks the Belgian ship. From this point, a profound human drama unfolds, focusing on the pride of those living at sea and their daily lives on the edge of life and death, as well as how they deal with those who hold the power over life and death.

With full cooperation from the Italian Navy, a full-scale replica of the submarine Comandante Cappellini was built.

【Synopsis】
Break through the extreme sea zone!
In October 1940, the Italian Navy submarine Comandante Cappellini, during an operation to cut off supplies to the British, encounters an unidentified cargo ship armed with naval guns and sinks it.
However, it turns out to be a Belgian ship, which should be a neutral country’s vessel.

Captain Salvatore Todaro, known as "the most reckless lieutenant in the Italian Navy," declares, "We will ruthlessly sink enemy ships, but we will try to save the crew," and rescues the crew members.
The interior of the submarine is cramped, and to protect those on board, they navigate the British-controlled waters without diving, remaining in a defenseless state.
