Exploration: It is the turbulent era of Europe in the 1920s. The ashes of the First World War still darken the snow. Capitalist city-states, simply called "factories," fueled war with heavily armored mechs, closed their doors, and drew the attention of several nearby countries. PUBLISHED BY: Stonemaier is a tabletop game publisher based in St. Louis, distributing worldwide. Stonemaier's brands include Vineyard, Euphoria, Between Two Cities, Scythe, Charterstone, My Little Scythe, Between Two Castles of Mad King Ludwig, Wingspan, Tapestry, Pendulum, Red Rising, Rolling Realms, Libertalia, Smitten, Expeditions, Apiary, Wyrmspan, and others. Changing History: Scythe is an engine-building game set in a reimagined history of Eastern Europe in the 1920s. It is an era of agriculture, war, heartbreak, rusty gears, innovation, and courage. Diversity: With five different factions and five different player boards, players can combine them to enhance replayability. Asymmetric power keeps the game fresh each time. Quick Turns: Scythe uses a streamlined action selection mechanism (no rounds or phases) to keep gameplay fast-paced and reduce downtime between turns. For 1-5 players, approximately 115 minutes, ages 14 and up. Low Luck and Randomness: Scythe allows players to have almost complete control over their fate. Besides each player's individual hidden objective card, the only element of luck is the "Encounter" cards drawn when interacting with citizens of newly explored lands. Beautiful Design and Artwork: Designed by Jamey Stegmaier (Vineyard). Features intriguing and beautiful 1920s-style artwork by Jakub Rozalski (Iron Harvest), depicting a richly developed alternate reality. Cold War Tension: Tension arises more from the threat of combat than from combat itself. Combat wounds both parties but also benefits both. Becoming an attacker in Scythe or forcibly relocating workers from land may reduce popularity, but making decisions that boost story popularity increases it. Mechanisms Designed Around Theme: The reward of encounter cards adds a role-playing feel to Scythe, allowing players to choose from resource benefits and also decide moral conflicts. Animal companions, mechs, and characters all tell rich stories of conspiracy and sought-after glory. Upgrades reveal more benefits, making game progress easier and providing a sense of actually upgrading something. Upgrades reveal more benefits, make game progress cheaper, and give a feeling of actually upgrading something. Solo Play: Features an automa for single-player matches, providing a fun solitaire experience. The automa simulates opponents, but the game as a player remains unchanged. During the automa's turn, flip one card to see what action to take.
