EU Organic Certification / A common organic certification across EU countries. Products bearing this mark are produced and manufactured in accordance with EU organic standards.
For processed products, this indicates that over 95% of agricultural raw materials are organic.
JAS Organic / Certified under Japan Agricultural Standards (JAS) Organic Certification System. The certification is granted after inspection by a Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries registered agency, confirming that production complies with the standards.

Founded in 1988 in Waldviertel, northern Austria.
Waldviertel, Johannes Gutmann’s hometown, is located in one of Austria’s coldest regions at an altitude of 500–1000 meters.
Winter temperatures can drop below -25°C.
Despite the harsh environment, the area is suitable for organic cultivation because pests find it difficult to thrive, and the cold climate helps herbs develop a particularly good aroma.
Starting from a small village, their herbal teas gained worldwide attention for their high quality and strong philosophy.
Today, Sonentor’s products are used in top hotels worldwide and are loved in approximately 45 countries, representing a leading herbal tea brand in Europe.
Sonentor’s Commitment
- Uses raw materials cultivated through biodynamic farming.
Herbs are grown according to lunar cycles, and only high-quality tea leaves are carefully hand-picked.
All parts of the plants—flowers, fruits, leaves, roots—are incorporated as ingredients.
- Does not use preservatives or artificial fragrances.
Teas and herbs harvested and processed by hand retain their natural aroma, eliminating the need for artificial fragrances.
- No chemical processing is applied to packaging.
Tea bags are made from 100% biodegradable, unbleached recycled paper.
Threads are made from unbleached cotton without oil coating.
Outer packaging is made from biodegradable cellophane material.
- Community and regional involvement
Sonentor’s farms involve local people in herb cultivation and harvesting. This activity energizes small villages and has developed into an international industry. Currently, there are over 150 contracted farms within Austria, and for ingredients difficult to cultivate domestically, overseas contracted farms are used.
Each year, President Johannes Gutmann and the quality control team visit the farms to check quality and build mutual trust.
- Packaging designed by picture book artists
Many of Sonentor’s charming herbal tea packages are illustrated by German and Austrian picture book artists, conveying messages embedded in the teas.
*Note:* The plant-derived cellophane used to wrap Sonentor products was well-received for being environmentally friendly. However, starting in 2021, Sonentor has phased out cellophane to become more sustainable. The company has improved individual packaging by applying a thin plant-based film inside the wrapper to preserve the aroma and flavor of the herbs. Please understand that product packaging may vary during the transition period. We aim to offer teas that are more delicious, more sustainable, and more delightful.
